Letting Go of Fear in the New Year

(Originally published in January 2018)

Hello, all! And HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2018 is finally here! I have been so excited about this year for a while now and I'm so ready to get it started! A new year is always a fresh beginning where you get the chance to start anew with a refreshed mindset, new intentions, and just an overall renewed outlook on your life. As fun and exciting as that can be, it is also can come with fear. Fear is something that we all have to some degree. Our fears differ from person to person, season to season, situation to situation, but the fears are all the same in the sense that they put limitations on us that are not valid. These fears aren't something that we necessarily (actually we probably never) voice to others, post on our instagram or facebook accounts, or readily admit to ourselves. Until we can acknowledge our fears, they will forever be limitations that we hold for ourselves. But, you know what?? You don't have any true limitations, except the ones that come from fear that you set for yourself. These might be because you heard them told to you in the past or you tried something once and it didn't work out how you planned or fill in the blank. But who the heck cares?? If there is something that you want to do, create, see, achieve, manifest, you absolutely can do it! NEWS FLASH: who better to do it than you?! You already have everything in you that's needed to accomplish whatever it is that you want to accomplish. You don't need to be more or less of something to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve. But what you do have to do is to break down your fears and release them.

To do this, you have to be 100% honest with yourself in order to identify your fears so that you can break them down. Being brutally honest with yourself is not a comfortable thing, I know. Raise your hand if you've ever been there! You can typically find these fears in your self talk or excuses. I'd really like to run that race, but I'm not athletic enough. Wait, who said you weren't athletic?? I'd really like to write a book, but there are people with more experience/ knowledge on that topic than me. Who cares!? Your voice matters! I'd really like to read more books, but I'm a slow reader. Is being a fast reader a prerequisite for picking up a book and reading it? I'd really like to learn how to paint, but I'm not artistic. Shut the front door! Someone told you that crap once and now it's stopping you from trying something that you actually are probably going to be great at.

Any of these sound familiar to you? All of these excuses and limitations manifest themselves as fear inside of you and prevent you from doing the things you actually want to do. When in reality, these fears aren't even true. They got built up in your mind over the years from some situation and now you believe them to be a truth. Well, I've got news for you... THEY'RE NOT THE TRUTH! Once you can identify, break down, and release those fears, you will find that you are capable of SO much more than you ever thought possible. The opportunities will be endless and your world will open up. So I challenge you to be soooo dang honest with yourself and release those fears. They're heavy and you don't want to carry them with you all through this new year. Plus, you'll miss out on so much because you have this unfounded fear that you can't do it. You are smarter, more athletic, funnier, wittier, more talented, more artistic, more capable, prettier, kinder, gentler, more relentless, happier, wiser, stronger than you think. No one is "better" for your dreams than you are. And, last I checked, you are in charge of your life. Whatever it is that you want to do, it's waiting for you! Get going!
