Talking Self-Talk

Let’s talk self talk. Those little voices in your head that replay a tune over and over again that tell you lies. It tells you you’re not good enough, you’re not worthy of that, you’re not loved, you can’t do that, you’re too (fill in the blank) for that, you’re not smart enough, no one will listen to you, why would they take you serious, you’re not qualified enough for that... and on and on. These voices might not be prominent but if you listen, they’re there. They’re holding you back from being your true, authentic self and from your dreams and from living the life you want to live. And guess what?! They’re just a bunch of LIES. They are not the truth about you.

So how do we change this?! The important thing is to just acknowledge these thoughts when they come up- don’t beat yourself up for having them because that it just the mind in its primal form “protecting” us. And then say to yourself (out loud or to your self) that is not true and replace it with something that IS true. Something like, “I am worthy. I am unique. I am brilliant. I can do this if I decide I want to.”

This, somewhat awkward, process will be natural and easy and second nature as you practice it. You’ll find those negative self talk mantras will take a back seat and the uplifting, encouraging TRUTH will rise to the forefront. And give yourself GRACE. It’ll take time and practice but you’re worth it!

Whenever I’m feeling down or defeated, I will open a note page on my phone or take out a piece of paper and I will write until I feel better. It looks like this..

I am beautiful

I am loved

I am enough

I am growing

I am funny

And this list continues until I start feeling my mood shift. This is a small but POWERFUL practice. What is one thing you know about yourself to be TRUE?!
